Coming together as a team and looking through the brief to decide what we want to achieve in order to ensure we as a team understand each other and have the best idea of how to achieve our goals. Going away and researching possible designers to create a campaign for individually, I was keen to look at the menswear designers from the recent LCM Fashion Week. Menswear is something I have previously looked at and am interested in. Using a menswear designer will push the team and encourage us to move outside of our comfort zones in order to create an innovative and interesting campaign.

Confirming our designer as Bobby Abley, the menswear designer and his S/S16 collection is exciting and interesting, we will be able to expand our knowledge and skills on the marketing of menswear products. Ensuring that as a team we focus on the campaign from a male perspective will be key to our success. Also Bobby Abley is an extremely creative and unique designer with lots of quirky and fun collections.
Looking at Bobbys SS16 collection, and inspirations it has allowed the team to discard certain obvious routes to campaign E.G StarWars, Space and Disney. Researching him as a designer and his background has ensured we can appropriately create a campaign. To give us a good starting point for a creative and original concept we visited Whitworth art gallery. From this we got to explore different images and pieces, I found it eye opening and thought provoking, it broadened the scope for inspiration.
During the workshop, the task of utilising a piece of clothing as something else, focusing on styling and thinking about how to use the item in order to create something different and unique. Using the task to play around and get creative, thinking about different ideas and using our imaginations to come up with creative outcomes, this can be transferred to our assignment, pushing the boundaries and taking our initial ideas as well as pieces of inspiration to a different place.

Going away individually and brainstorming some ideas using everything we gained from the workshops, Whitworth and research in to Bobby.
In the workshop we met Graphic Designer and Typographer , Ben Greenhalgh, who gave us the challenge of word play. Our given letter was ‘T’, and taking inspiration from Lizzie we routed through handbags to see what we had hidden in there. I discovered a tea bag or two that instantly sparked some inspiration. We got many different outcomes with the tea, and even played around with different filming techniques to creatively display the word. This was enjoyable and sparked ideas to play around in regards to our outcomes. Along side the brainstorming it really helped to broaden the possibilities for concepts and outcomes.
We later in the week pulled our ideas together to find a common feeling for Bobbys strong connection to nostalgia, and his fun playful designs. This sparked ideas to run with in regards to being children, nostalgia, Bobbys life growing up. We found our research and brainstorming helped arrive at cartoon concept, creating bobbys very own cartoon or video game.

Taking some initial ideas to Jen we got motivation to move forward and run with our nostalgia route. We looked at Bobbys child hood era and different boy related themes:
-
Video games
-
Comic Books
-
Cartoon programmes
Taking ideas to Paul in Digital Innovation hub and bouncing some possibilities for how to make our ideas come alive allowed us to cut out Video games, as the length of time and quality of game didn’t correlate with the deadline. Comic strip and cartoon could be intertwined and made digital.
After the digital innovation hub we did research in to possible character ideas, the obvious menswear designer meant focusing on male characters, and then also our own personalities and roles within the group allowed 7 characters to be thought up. Possibilities of outcomes using the concepts we had narrowed down all ranged from QR codes (inspired by Banksy – researched earlier), new logo, comic story lines, social media, photo book.
The characters being thought up allowed me to begin some initial sketches, from research and group discussions, I sketched up 5 characters as well as bobby. Only rough ideas to get an idea of styles, expressions, individual personas to ensure they coincided with Bobby Abley brand, his collection and our extensive research.

Creating the formative board with our ideas, inspirations and current research
I drew out the final designs for the characters, ready to be scanned on to the computer.

Feedback on our formative board allowed to sit and revisit our ideas and focus on areas which fit the brand and the concept in order to push the creative outcomes. Given feedback on possible comics and platforms in which would be beneficial towards our concept which we presented.
We took a trip to Manchester Art Gallery, it brought some inspiration and allowed us to ensure our creative thoughts and ideas were pushed and original. We found some interesting exhibits including the clore interactive centre which got us playing and exploring, we also saw primary school kids utilising the area, this was interesting to take away with us. There was also the technological exhibit which found the use of smart robots and machines. This brought us back to the digitalisation of our concept and gave us ‘food for thought’ towards different aspects.
I drew up the first comic strip after discussing the appropriate storylines. The story lines were inspired from Bobbys key influence of popular culture, social media as well as primary research.
The characters were coloured in on photo shop, compared to the other ways in which they were coloured the photo shop version brought them to life and is the method chosen for the final output.
I drew the logo up, focusing on keeping Bobby Ableys original bear logo shape but bring It to life with features and tattoos featured on Bobby himself.
I created the QR code also, linking it to the blog which will feature everything; our outputs, research, logobooks, details.
Taking inspiration from the Manchester art gallery I looked in to ways in which we can bring aspects of the designs, characters and comics to a different place. Making some of the situations move would be a really fun and creative aspect that will digitally enhance the designs.

I drew up the second comic strip, and pitched in digitalising the first comic strip.
Digitalising the logo and then combining it with the QR code in order to intergrate the QR code cohesively with the other outputs.
This then inspired the idea to integrate it further within the social media by creating posters with the bear and spreading them around Manchester with the #FINDTHEBEAR. This will spread awareness and encourage traffic to the different social media and blog.
GIFS were explored for the logo and particular scenes in the comic strip. drawing different stages to be played in sequence in order to create a realistic movement, the bear will be winking and the comic strips will be explored to also involve moving graphics.

The third comic strip was drawn and the moving elements were created. Making some aspects of the scenes move makes the comic strips more interactive and eye catching. This was something we as a team were not sure would work initially but has really paid off.
The comic strip can now be integrated in to the social media.
14/3/2016
I helped the final pages of the photobook and inputted on the social media.
The comic book front cover and name was finalised, drawn and digitalised, ready to be spread on social media.
Reflecting through all our outputs, ensuring each output had a purpose and worked together in order to strengthen Bobby Ableys communication.
